Earlier today, I was reading an article at the Electronic Frontier Foundation website.
It was about their opinions on the E-Verify system currently being considered by the U.S. Congress to validate the illegibility status of all U.S. workers. One of the things that Adi Kamdar writes caught my eye:
…creating a single, government-controlled database of highly sensitive, detailed information about every legal worker in the United States.
Now, here’s the thing… what’s so worrisome about this? Isn’t the “highly sensitive, detailed information” on all legal U.S. workers already being stored in at least two other 
databases; Social Security and the IRS? What’s the panic with E-Verify doing the same thing? It’ll just be another database that the government controls that contains all of our “highly sensitive, detailed information”.
Maybe I’m missing something here. I often agree with EFF on many issues, but this time I’m just not so sure that this E-Verify is the monster in the closet that it’s being painted as. I could be wrong about this, though.
What are your thoughts on it?

Well i have not read the whole thing yet but the first part caught my eye:
“E-Verify is an Internet-based, free program run by the United States government that compares information from an employee’s Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 to data from U.S. government records. If the information matches, that employee is eligible to work in the United States.”
This is a bit more than just the Social Security/IRS because of the real-time validation. Normally a person just fills out the appropriate tax form at work, has their credentials photocopied and this information is sent into the IRS on a tax season basis,
The wiki entry does not really go indept into the criticism of the program but I plan on researching it further. In my opinion, all data-mining is a bad thing, especially by the government.
Yeah… I can see your point. The E-Verify is instantaneous as compared to the lumbering giant bureaucracies like SSA or the IRS. I also agree with you regarding data mining. Speaking of data mining, I was able to get in using your recent Google+ invite. Setting it up now. Now singing, “I wanna be assimilated” to the music of I Wanna’ Be Sedated by the Ramones. 😉
