I have a lot less insulation than I used to; having recently lost about 70 lbs.

I don’t know for sure if that’s the reason, but man… I’m COLD! Yeah… Yeah… I hear you northern folks laughing in the background. How can someone in Sunny Florida actually have the nerve to complain about being cold. Well, I can’t help it. It seems that I just can’t handle the cooler temps like I used to when I was younger (and plumper) fellow.

It’s just after noon here. It’s 57F outside and 62F in my house right now. I just turned on both of my little radiator-type oil filled heaters. I’m wearing jeans, a t shirt, a flannel shirt, and a hooded sweatshirt over that. BRRRR! I’ll warm up in a bit, I’m sure. This house can catch a chill if you let it. It’s very well built/insulated. Once it reaches a certain temperature, it stays there for quite some time, but I think I let it get chilled the past 24 hours.

Reminds me of when I was a little tike. We heated this house back then with an old style fuel oil heater. Man! That thing would roast your arse off. There hasn’t been as good a heat source in this house since that time. Reverse cycle ACs, heat strip ACs, and portable radiator heaters just don’t even come close to the warmth that old fuel oil burner used to put out. It would probably be cheaper to run, even nowadays, than those others.

The picture you see here is similar to the old heater we used to have in our hallway in this house. Ours wasn’t quite as fancy, but worked well just the same. I can still remember my father turning on the fuel flow and waiting a few seconds before dropping one of those old style wooden kitchen matches down into the bottom of the furnace. It would go WOMP! …and then he’d turn it down to a nice mellow orange/blue glow. I can close my eyes and still remember seeing that glow through the little glass window in the door of the thing.

Sometimes, that old technology wasn’t too bad. Stay warm, folks.

Later…
